There’s No Universal Hiring Methodology

The Art of Finding Work

I once hired someone who was over 20 minutes late for their scheduled interview.

I have hired many candidates without a college or university degree.

I have hired candidates who were unemployed for more than 6 months.

I have lost count of how many candidates over 50 I have hired.

I have lost count of how many candidates with no “industry experience” I have hired.

If you’re a hiring manager who’s serious about finding the best candidate, the one that’ll be a great fit, then you need to throw out the rules you have floating in your head regarding what a person needs to be, look like, have accomplished, etc.

Don’t be quick to judge!

Before you dismiss a resume because of your preconceived notions (READ: biases), think about doing something new… like giving someone a chance.

At the end of the day, you can do all the due diligence you want, your final moment when you decide whether or not to hire someone comes down to your “gut feel” and your gut may tell you to give the person who doesn’t appear perfect on paper a chance to prove themselves and surprise you at the same time.
