Tips to Building Job Search Resilience
  • Keep your expectations realistic. Looking to replicate the job, the income you had is a recipe for prolonging your job search. Best job advice today comes from the rolling Stones lyrics, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you find you get what you need.”
  • Accept the fact employers own their hiring process — they hire to their needs, not yours.
  • Don’t put much hope in your online applications. Applying online is the equivalent to playing the lottery — you’re expecting a stranger to hire you.
  • Look for your tribe — for where you belong. Employers don’t have to accept you as you are, therefore look for employers where you’ll most likely fit in.
  • Look at yourself first. Be completely honest with yourself. Often, you’re the reason for not being hired (The image and attitude you’re projecting.), not your age, gender, “over-qualified,” or how the employer has decided to hire. Having a victim-mindset creates self-limiting beliefs and stagnates your learning and personal growth.
